This week’s guest is none other than Kamala Parks! Fans of the Berkeley punk scene would no doubt be familiar with her work. Not only was she the drummer for bands like Kamala And The Karnivores, Cringer, Naked Aggression, The Gr’ups, etc. but she was also one of the key people in starting The Gilman Street Project; the iconic punk rock DIY venue that gave such bands as Green Day and The Offspring a place to play before they were launched into the mainstream in 1994. This inspiring interview has Kamala opening up about her involvement in the Berkeley punk scene from booking shows in her hometown to touring Europe – all before she was 20 years old. She tells of working with the likes of Green Day and The Offspring as well as the story behind the Screeching Weasel song, Kamala’s Too Nice. This interview is really something special. If this doesn’t make you want to get up and start making things happen, I don’t know what will. We all need a Kamala in our lives to show us that anything is possible. I hope you enjoy the show which you can listen to right now by clicking on THIS LINK. Don’t forget to subscribe by clicking on the link on the left.

The Mr T Experience

This week’s episode features part 1 of a 2 part interview with non other than Dr Frank of the California pop punk rockers, The Mr T Experience. This is one helluva ride! Dr Frank talks with Michele and Damo about the band’s humble beginnings and career highlights up til and including the album Our Bodies, Our Selves (part 2 follows from Love Is Dead onward coming October 4th). This is one awesome chat and is so much fun as Dr Frank goes into detail about his song writing and tales surrounding those around him. There’s chats about Gilman Street, Lookout Records, Kevin Army, The Queers, movies,  being understood, being misunderstood, antics, shenanigans, etc. It’s awesome and you can listen in right now by clicking on THIS LINK.

All music by The Mr T Experience, of course.

Episode 92

This week we celebrate the one year anniversary of that time Michele saw Screeching Weasel, The Queers and The Mr T Experience on the same bill. Why is this noteworthy? Cos these kinds of shenanigans just wouldn’t happen in Australia. Hell, we couldn’t even successfully get Screeching Weasel to tour here on their own let alone be blessed with the likes of the MTX and the Queers. Woe is us. So what we did was celebrate by playing bands that were released through the Berkeley, California label, Lookout! Records. That’s right, every single record we played on this week’s show is a Lookout! Records release and it’s all awesome! Seriously, you’d be hard pressed to find a better playlist than this. Yep. Oh, and Michele reviews the Suicide Squad movie just for kicks. Listen in right now by clicking on THIS LINK.
