Episode 115

Well this week’s show is freakin’ awesome! Our special guest is none other than punk rock engineer / producer, ex-Screeching Weasel bass player, and founding member of Squirtgun, Mass Giorgini. If you’re a fan of 90s pop punk, then chances are you’ve been listening to records he’s either engineered, produced or played on. This episode is filled with stories revolving around working with the likes of Ben Weasel, Danny Vapid, Jughead, Dan Panic, Dan Lumley, Zac Damon, Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt, The Hard-Ons, Anti-Flag, Rise Against, Green Day, and the list goes on. He talks about his time at The Lookouting and that one song that shot them straight into peoples homes with the movie Mallrats. This is a two hour interview of solid punk rock goodness and you’re gonna love it! Listen in right now by clicking on THIS LINK. The Mr T Experience

Michele and Damo are back again for the second installment of the interview with Mr T Experience frontman and best selling author, Dr Frank. This episode follows on from the previous show’s shenanigans and we hear Dr Frank take us on a walk through the album Love Is Dead and everything that follows right up til the release of the brand new album, King Dork Approximately which is out TODAY, October 4th. So, we have a special treat for you… we debut a brand spanking new song so if you can’t wait til the book arrives in your hands to download the whole album, we play a track from it to give you a lil taster til you have have the book and the album yourself. Not only that but we also finish the show with an unreleased MTX track that was supplied by Dr Frank himself. It’s not what you would expect but it’s quirky enough for you to still enjoy. So jump on in and listen to part 2 by clicking on THIS LINK.

All tunes by The Mr T Experience, of course.

Episode 92

This week we celebrate the one year anniversary of that time Michele saw Screeching Weasel, The Queers and The Mr T Experience on the same bill. Why is this noteworthy? Cos these kinds of shenanigans just wouldn’t happen in Australia. Hell, we couldn’t even successfully get Screeching Weasel to tour here on their own let alone be blessed with the likes of the MTX and the Queers. Woe is us. So what we did was celebrate by playing bands that were released through the Berkeley, California label, Lookout! Records. That’s right, every single record we played on this week’s show is a Lookout! Records release and it’s all awesome! Seriously, you’d be hard pressed to find a better playlist than this. Yep. Oh, and Michele reviews the Suicide Squad movie just for kicks. Listen in right now by clicking on THIS LINK. Episode 91

The latest episode is here and it features an interview I have been chasing for years. Ever since this podcast was started we have been playing Weston’s tunes and we began chasing Dave (the band’s co-founder and vocalist / guitarist) to see if we could get him on the show. It seemed impossible but finally, things fell into place and we managed to find him! So here we have it, the long-awaited chat with Dave Weston and James Alex Snyder from the band, Weston. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane. All tunes by Weston. Go buy their stuff. It’s all awesome. You can listen right now by clicking on THIS LINK.

GREEN DAY – Slappy 7″
Label: Lookout Records
Year: 1990

Words by Damo.

So back in 1990 there was an independent band in Australia named Ratcat who hit the charts with a catchy single titled That Ain’t Bad. It was released on an EP called Tingles and shot the band straight into the mainstream public with catchy hooks and a Buzzcocks-ish vibe that reeked of distortion and melody. This once little known trio from Sydney were now everywhere; on TV, in magazines, everywhere. Ratcat Mania had swept the nation and the band went on to have a successful album called Blind Love before disappearing into obscurity with their follow up that basically saw their ‘new’ fans move on to the next hottest newest what’s hip number one album of the year and forget about this power pop band and their three hit singles (all great). Still, people like myself were not going to walk out on our favourite bands at the time and Ratcat were still a band we supported and still do to this day. (more…)
