Okay, so here’s the story with this show… this is just a bonus cos I was home and wanted to put my insanity to good use. Here’s what I did… I went to my 7″ vinyl collection and pulled out 1 record by a band beginning with each letter of the alphabet thus resulting in 26 singles in my hand. I didn’t look at the records I pulled out, I just reached my hand into the shelf and hoped for the best. Kinda like that scene in Flash Gordon where they play Russian Roulette by putting their hands into that wooden log thing with that scorpion green monster hiding inside… except that I wasn’t gonna get stung by anything except rock n roll! The results? An interesting mix of music. A few tunes I have played on the show before but there’s plenty I haven’t and I totally forgot what they sounded like. This was a great experiment and I can assure you now, it’s all 100% legit. No peaking, no choosing, no putting records back that I didn’t want to play, just pure random selection. There’s also no talking on this show, just music. And lots of it. I hope you have fun with this little exercise in craziness meets randomness. I like the results and I am glad I got to share so many great songs with you all. To have a listen to this shenanigans, just click this link or if you want to download the mp3, right click and save as on this link. I started off with a band whose name is a number as these numbered bands come first in my vinyl collection and I figured it was a good way to kick start the alphabet idea.

I love Japan. It’s without a doubt one of the best places in the world. It’s full of crazy neon lights, machines that yell at you, bizarre sacred temples, koi fish, and hot women. Like this one time, I had just left Bar Current and it was like 7am. I was walking along the streets of Shinjuku and this extremely gorgeous woman was walking towards me, smiling, she came straight up to me and asked if I wanted a special musashi. Now, for those in the weightlifting world, you are no doubt familiar with musashi. I, personally, have no idea what musashi is, let alone special musashi, but I do remember seeing it written on a banner behind a weight lifter once during the Olympic games. Anyway, I eventually worked out that what she was offering me was a special massage. You know, nude and stuff? She was like super hot and I should have accepted her offer cos my back was killing me from all the walking I do when I am in Japan but when I found out that she wanted money in exchange for this special massage, I kindly declined, said “kawaii” and went on my way, killing time before I had to rush to the airport to catch an ongoing flight to Germany for some Manowar viking ship burning goodness. So, yeah, Japan… how could you not be into it?
I love Japan, it’s as simple as that. I have been there a number of times and you really can’t beat the awesomeness of the place. It’s like one giant amusement park with lots of bright lights, nice people and great music. This video below was a segment from a TV show on Japanese culture that was screened on Australian TV about 15 years ago. I think this video is the one thing that kicked off my fascination with Japan. I had been discovering the whole Estrus Records thing with my first purchase of Japanese rock n roll being a 7″ by The 5.6.7.8′s called ‘I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield’ (ES750), bought purely because I also have a fascination with the life of Jayne Mansfield; my favourite blonde bombshell who sadly saw her fate in a car crash on June 29, 1967 at the young age of 34 (yeah, I am such a Jayne geek that I actually know that). ANYWAY, upon receiving the record in the mail, I played the wax immediately and became intrigued with Japanese rock n roll. There was something cool and quirky about this band, The 5.6.7.8′s, and I needed to hear more. Oh, and yeah, the drummer’s hot.
